Thats a very nice 261. I hope someone takes her off your hands.
Artie, if you are looking for a cover, the best covers in our area come from Covers Unlimited in Greenwell Springs, LA (a tad north of Baton Rouge). They made Ryan's cover and my cover for the Mako21. Very high quality work and a good warranty on their workmanship. I'll be bringing them my 261 in a few months as well. |

Hi Artie, I think the covers are Shoemake from Florida , Ill check the tag, there is also a heavier full canvas for traveling down the highway, and a bow cover , and an enclosure for the T top. all came from the same loft. the only issue is the plastic zips dont hang too well with UV after a time and they wind up not staying zipped. I have to sew in new zips. But the Sunbrella Fabric really does great job of keeping the topsides looking great. That and wax

Actually, I am not real sure about the Mirage wheels as far as pitch. the motors are really low time and they sound good... these Mercurys are something else. This is my first pair of em, and every MDW&F officer that has seen these says that the 2.5L was the best motor they ever ran. Do you run Mercurys too?
It took me a while to trim it right and I am still moving things abit. I started at 3000 rpm and adjusted the trim and the tabs to get it to best plane. The GPS clocks the SOG at those numbers +/- a knot or two depending on the waves... The rpm is a best guess with synchronization +/- 100rpm. In a 4 foot sea quartering, it slows a bit too. STW numbers are a bit higher, but I havent calibrated the knotmeter in the speedlog. 3 different GPS units say the same thing. Wind about 8kts,and a gulf that is fairly flat. I dont run past 4000, and I seem to get about 3mpg cruising at 22kts. I had about 100gallons of gas aboard when I did the speed runs.

I'm running 17p stilletos which are similar wheels....
At 4k I'm turning an even 30 knots, maybe 19 knots at 3K, in between its 11 knots off the rpm (3500=24knots)
I think 17 years of bottom paint[:u] vs gellcoat probably has a whole lot to due with the discrepency |

Ok so I looked at the survey and yep they are 19p Mirage wheels. Looking at em... they look cool. This Mako has no bottom paint, and the previous owner and now I have taken up the waxing responsibility for it... the bottom is waxed... A Lot of wax... Carnauba. Then it is buffed with an orbital buffer and a sheep hide using very little pressure. Ive done it 5 times this year. Sounds rediculous, and probably is, but I cant see it any other way. The hull really performs in the water. When I wash it off after a run, the salt deposits from spray just fall off. Being basically a freshwater boat, it is stored on her trailer. this year, I ran it maybe 8 hours in the gulf total. To me, the 261 is just the most incredible ride. My nephew was so jealous, he bought an 06 34' Yellowfin with 3 275 Verados on it.[:u] If you know of any therapists that can help me with this delusional shortfall send em my way thanks [(#)] |

Hi everyone, I revised the photographs to show off the Mahogany trim Idea of mine I added to the helm console; the finish is rubbed tung oil only, The old Star Board trim had to go. Both stock seapacks are intact, on the lower right is the autopilot. If anybody wants to get a piece of trim like that to dress up their console ,, let me know. and also , I added some new photos of my boat. here is one looking aft

here is one of the Live well. and one of the forward bow area E |

Thanks for your offer. While Foolish Pleasure III is now located on the Gulf Coast, the boat has only seen limited use in saltwater during a few fishing tournaments over the course of the previous ownership. The Aluminum Magic Tilt Trailer also offered with the boat has brand new tires including the spare all around and Completely new brakes and backing plates. The entire rolling axles, spindles, bearings, have been meticulously maintained. The entire Rig tows remarkably well behind my 06 half ton GMC pickup with the 4.8l engine...(also FS) I couldnt believe it actually tows that well. But, I can cruise down the highway at 60-65mph and get decent mileage doing so given the weight of the boat. Uh I guess the weight is almost maximum for a half ton, but I do not have to pull it far living on the coast now. The haul from Atlanta was very easy. Because this boat was originally based in the Atlanta area, most of the total accumulated time occured with family use Lake Lanier. My plans have changed for professional reasons and thus Foolish Pleasure is offered to a new home. Thanks for looking at Foolish Pleasure III. |

| Man that is a nice mako you got there. Do you have to pre mix the oil for those motors. How big is the livewell? Don't take this the wrong way but why are you selling the boat? |

| Thanks for the kind words about Foolish Pleasure III. The 2.5L Merc 200 hp motors have a pressurized oil injection system. It uses quicksilver 50:1 oil. The live well is the standard Livewell set up for the 261. The plumbing arrangement Changed somewhat for the 1992 model year in that the drains are co located near the keel. The livewell works impressively having PVC ball cocks that operate and transfer the water where ever you want it to go.I am offering this boat to the members of Classic Mako in an effort to get this boat in the hands of a boatman who appreciates the Mako boat. This boat is a tournament winning boat. It holds/ (held?) the current record for Yellow fin Tuna caught off Orange Beach, Al. Theres a lot of 261 hulls to see, but there are none with this rig nor the compliment of support equipment to keep it tournament ready. |
