Transom Project 2

Page 24

This is the mold all waxed and coated with PVA. Nice and shiny.

Next we have the gelcoat applied to about 20 mils thick with my new Binks Cup gun. The cup gun is good for shooting unthinned gelcoat, but I'm not sure how it will do with reduced gelcoat or thinned gelcoat. However with a good hand you can very easily make a nice non skid pattern by spraying. The kit comes with very large apertures, so you can spray gelcoat with nonskid particles already mixed in as well.

I let it sit for a few hours so that the gelcoat could begin to harden. Then I started the lay-up. This is a layer of 3/4oz mat on the mold with vinylester resin.

The next pix is of a layer of 1808DB going on.

The 1808 was wet-out, and then a layer of 3/4oz mat was layed up over that.

.

Here is the 2mm thick Auromat core going on. Its much like a resin sponge!!!

This is the final layer of glass going on top of the Auromat. Its a layer of sticthmat. Very heavy stuff. I'm not sure if its 18 or 24oz in weight.

Here is the stitchmat all wet-out.
