Transom Project 2

Page 3

I drew out my lines and drilled a hole so that I could get started with a saber saw. I cut the floor at a 30° angle sloping toward the aft of the hull.

I thin used a dremel tool with a rotary cutting bit to run up the sides. The parts of the liner that sticks out and holds the transom gate will be removed completely when I reassemble the hull.

Above you can see the cuts across the boat have all been made.

I used a Grinder with a metal cutting disk to make the cut across the floor and up the sides at the transom.

Here is a good shot of the cut that was made across the washboard in front of the hatch.

Finally, I have the rear section removed. It is a little flimsy without the support from the rest of the hull and inner liner.

Here are some shots of the bilge where I'm sure I'll be spending lots of quality time in the next few weekends!

I put the rear section back on the hull and used duct tape to cover all of the cuts so that as little rain water as possible gets into the bilge while the project is on hold for a few days.

Next weekend the rest of the rigging and the bilge pump hoses will be cleared, the aft corner foam floatation boxes will be removed, and a template of the existing transom will be made. Then I can get to removing the old core.
