Transom Project 2

Page 7

Today I finished the grinding/prep for bonding. I couldn't tell you how much dust I've raised in the last few days of work on this project. Its all over everything!

I grinded about 8" forward of the transom so that I can place adequate tabbing on the hull sides and bottom. I used my shop vac and air compressor to pick up as much dust as possible. Then I wiped everything down with acetone soaked rags and followed that with a tack rag.

I mixed up a batch of epoxy/cabosil paste and placed fillets in the sharp corners to round things over.

A layer of 1.5 oz mat was then placed over the epoxy/cabosil fillets. The fiberglass amt was also placed in low spots to make everything uniform and flat.

Next week the everything will be sanded and cleaned up again. The core pieces will be cut and fit, and hopefully I'll get the core laid into the transom by the end of the weekend.

Here is my newest idea for the project

I am going to remove the rectangular fish boxes behind the leaning post. This should get rid of a few pounds of weight and most importantly it will make more space in the boat! I am romancing the idea of building two below deck storage compartments where these boxes sit. There is substantial room below the floor to make a nice little compartment, and there is a possibility I could insulate them as well.
