Donned the tyvec suit and got re-acquainted with my grinder this weekend. My goal was to grind, clean and prepare the transom skin, bilge area and all deck seams so they were ready for re-glassing. I also wanted to try and get a template made for the new core and transom cap. I fell just short of getting it all done. ONe more afternoon session with the grinder and I should be there.

Here's all the old wood that was removed.

And the transom skin from the inside revealing several areas where the skin was not bonded to the core.

The worst damage was along the bottom, particularly near the trim tab mounts. Quite a bit of bad glass to remove.

This is a shot of the inner skin looking straight down into the bilge. Near the bottom, you can see the areas that had suffered the most from water intrusion. Totally delaminated from the core...

The bilge area will need a lot of grinder time to clean up properly.

I took several measurements of the transom for planning purposes. The white thing at the top is just a PVC 4x4 cover. I laid it across the transom to use as a straight edge and reference point. The corner boxes have already been cut out of the deck. I just re-positioned them temporarily.

When I had all the measurements, I made up this little diagram and emailed it to my friend, Steve. I used a digital image as a guide and I wasn't perfectly centered when I took the pic so it looks a little whacky as a result. He'll be making up some templates out of corrugated. To this point, all the pics and work took place during the evenings last week.
