The transom project has begun. We removed the engine so that we could access the aluminum transom plate that came on the boat. It needs to be removed before the transom enclosure can begin. We’re not quite sure why it was installed and hoping that it’s not covering any damage or rot.

While removing the transom plate we found a new project to add to our list. The rear hatch contains the live well and bilge pumps along with some other cabling. It’s dirty, unorganized and most of it is dry rotted. We’ll remove all of it so we can degrease and paint the inside. Afterwards we’ll replace everything with new.

Luckily the aluminum transom plate and trim tabs came off after a few hours of work. It was only covering mold and salt as you can see below. Next step is to sand it smooth in preparation for the transom fiberglass work and the new Armstrong bracket.
