I spent half the day on Saturday and all day Sunday removing the rest of the core. There may be a quick way to do it, but I did it with a good old fashion hammer and chisel. I didn't want to be over aggressive and damage the outer skin, so I just took my time with it. I'm pretty pleased with the progress, a little trimming and some more grinding and I'll be ready to make the template.
