Spent a 10 hour day just washing off 20 years of grime mildew and gunk from the entire boat. Then came the fun task of removing the ugly lettering and boot stripe. Heavy duty oven cleaner to the rescue. It really worked wonders on removing the lettering. At this point I tried compounding the hull with 3M restorer wax. Now that was a waste of time. The gel coat was so chalky the the rag completely clogged as son as I tried removing it. Back to square 1. I then decided the the only way to remove the chalk was to wet sand the entire boat inside and out. I first used 800 wet paper and then followed with 1500 wet paper. The results were great. The down side was that I became so sore that work progressed at a snails pace. The end result was well worth the laborious effort.
