Lot's of dicussion on
pie plates and I just fit my new set. All the pie plates I replaced on my 3
Makos have been tapered, but all the newer units are not tapered. What is
required is some removal of the fiberglass. (don't panic - the hoses in the
images are not for through hull fittings).
Here is a view of the tapered hole

Here is the taper removed - no deck core is exposed and any voids will be filled with epoxy and cabosil.

Here's what I used for the first 4" of cutting, then the blade got very hot and the teeth just rounded up - used metal cutting Bosch blades, the good ones.

I got a little smarter and started digging though the 50 - 60 blades in my bin and found this tile blade that has a 30 grit abrasive fused of the blade for tile cutting. This blade cut the fiberglass like nothing and showed no wear when done. They are a little pricy, but worth the $$. Anyone performing this should try this blade.

Need more room and offloading some Mako items to a barn in NH for several weeks. They will be about 1 hour away when I need them and about 10 minutes away from where I gelcoated the hull.

One step closer. We
are having one week of rain around here, but I cannot complain since we needed
it badly - but this rain (humidity) has slowed me down and I'm only going to
prime this weekend. The boat is covered from the gunnels down and I taped the
compartments that will not be sprayed.

I also dropped off the console cushions today to have them recovered. Should be ready next week. Super nice guy who is also getting me extra material so I can recover the bolsters.
