Stripped and pulled the console off. Big plans for that too.

With the extremely cold weather working outside has not been very comfortable, even with a little protection from the greenhouse and the heat that I blow into it. I chose to do some work on the console instead, inside the garage where it is warm. The picture is a profile shot showing the new shape of the console. Any structural pieces or pieces that will have anything mounted to it is made from 3/4" marine ply. I wanted strength in those areas and have something for screws to bite into when mounting things. I used luan for any other pieces, thinking it is basically just serving as a form for the glass once I lay it down. The wood will be completely encapsulated when I am done, and I only increase the weight by 15-20 pounds.

I wanted to get the wood glued in place on the console so I could back out the screws that were temporarily holding the wood in place. It is hard to sand anything fair with 50-60 wood screws in the way. I filleted all the sharp inside corners, and smoothed over the outside corners with a 5/8" round over bit on the router. I wet out all the wood with catalyzed resin, then rolled some 1.5oz mat that I wet out on my temporary mold table over the front top and back of the new addition. I was able to get the sides tied in a little, I will encapsulate them after I do some fairing. Once everything cured enough to sand, I started with a little fairing. You can see from the pics I still have some more fairing to do. The outside will get another layer of 1.5oz mat and some light cloth, but I ran out of resin. Waiting on UPS now...

While I was waiting for the stringer fillets to set up on Saturday I worked on filling in the bottom of the console. I used some of the 2415 that I had left over and some poly resin.
